H-1661 Summer, 1948 PAGE 5 UNDER THE KNIFE FANTASY AMATEUR, Spr48--Poll came out pretty much as expected. Your presentation was enjoyed, Fran. How often does the Constitution need to be printed? HORIZONS, Spr 48--As usual, high in both interest and eyestrain. GRULZAK, Spr 48--I say again "Glad you are still with us." Enjoyed this throughout...and thanks for the kind words anent this poor effort and my inclusion with some of my favorite people in the graveyard scene. I wish Harry would print his stuff as neatly and clearly as you do. PLENUM, May 48--Amen! You say it nice and sweet, and leave little to be added. You and Stevenson have now said it pretty well. Now we an all lean back and watch the other guy improve his stuff. I wonder if it will do much good, though, unless we come right out and insult the worst culprits personally.. FAN-DANGO--Your ideas about fandom vs Palmer and what might be behind all the fuss are interesting. There is probably more bases to your arguments than most fans will like to admit. A couple of your references may have hurt, but the truth is what puts teeth in them. I hope you will come back into the discussion on survival now that a few more have joined the party. PHANTEUR, way 48--why worry about covers, Don? Your stuff is good enough without them. Your reviews and worked-in comments were the meat of this issue. 'Twas all highly enjoyable. SNIX, May 1948--Nice changeover. I think I may like it better in the new format. My copy was easily readable all the way. I'd already seen the original of the reprint, so your reviews of pro and FAPA stuff remained to take most of my interest. Your puns on titles are atrocious, but I usually enjoy your comments. SKY HOOK, May 48--This was no flash in the pan! It looks as if we can expect you to stay among the best. Book reviews, mailing comments, general contents, and reproduction were all good. I would like to see more of these choices of the best of the remaining unused stuff for anthologies. Yours were mostly excellent. AH! SWEET IDIOCY!--This will bring screams and denials from injured egos, perhaps, but I enjoyed most of it. The first part is not nearly as vitriolic as I expected it to be. You are bound to be a bit prejudiced from experience (biased is the word, not prejudiced) so I am inclined to think you did a fair job. I am just an outsider who has looked in on the LA when opportunity permitted for a while, but I seem to find little gross exaggeration on points with which I am familiar. I didn't get back and meet you till early in 1945, though, so I will wait to see what comes later. It will be interesting to see how you saw events with which I am familiar.
