THE SCIENCE FICTION FAN 1 EDITORIAL By OLON F. WIGGINS "FAN" seems to have gotten a bit slow in getting out on time. However this will be remedied in the next issue or so. It has began to be a rather tough proposition in getting enough material to put in "Fan" together with. So if any of you have S.F. Material on hand, or care to do some, send them along. After all this is put out for your benefit. So feel free to contribute material for publication in "Fan". Am sorry about those blank pages in the back of "Fan" last issue but I wasn't able to be on hand at the time the printer was locking the job up, otherwise the type would either have been spaced so as to fill it all up, or material enough to fill it would have been added. Will try and not let it happen again. I am going to stop publishing stories in "Fan" hereafter, as it seems the readers would rather not read them. I think it a good idea. After all the professional S.F. magazines print enough of them so henceforth only the regular features off "Fan" will be printed. Unless the circulation of "Fan" makes a sudden rise in the very near future it will more than likely go the way of "Wonder Stories". While the circulation is large enough to keep most Fan Magazines going, it is not enough to keep "Fan" going in its present format. No one will lose the money that was sent in as a subscription to "Fan". All such money will be returned. Why the circulation is no larger than it is is one of those mysteries. Perhaps it is not as good as all the predecessors of "Fan". Such being the case, it is easy enough to understand the circulation being no larger than it is. In case no other issues than this one appear, I will take this opportunity to express my thanks to all those who were good enough to support "Fan" also to those who sent in material for usage in "Fan". All I want to do is to break even, which I haven't done since the first issue. So any new subscribers you get for "Fan" will help in keeping "Fan" going. Otherwise, So long, --EDITOR FANFARADE By DONALD A. WOLLHEIM The first Science Fiction Convention in stf. history was held October 18th in Philadelphia.
