IMAGI-NATION 11 "Dear Forrest: I have just received my copy of the FANCYCLOPEDIA ... and after a first reading, hasten to express my thanks to you, Speer, and everybody connected with this tremendous project. "For it is tremendous. It is probably the most important step ever undertaken in the history of fandom. Not only because of the labor involved...but for a reason transcending all others any fan might logically advance. "I wonder if you can guess what I'm driving at...wonder if you know what the FANCYCLOPEDIA really means to your group? "It establishes a definite culture. It offers a complete history, sociological study, philosophy and modus vivendi. It makes fandom PERMANENT as a social phenomenon. "The labor that went into was well worth while, I feel. And though the volume has its minute imperfections...it's a bit biased for one thing (you can certainly distinguish friend from foe, and there were times when I maliciously wondered how Wollheim or RAP or Degler might have treated the same material)...nevertheless the overall result is most imposing. "There should, I think, be no doubt as to the success of the FANCYCLOPEDIA. No serious fan can afford to be without a copy... and no student, reader or author of fantasy can neglect the significance of this achievement. "It's a real milestone, Forry. There are times when I stick out my tongue at certain foibles of fandom. but dammit, this is one occasion when I take off my hat and bow humbly to you all for executing this concept. Sincerely, [[illegible signature]] Bob Bloch" FANCYCLOPEDIA - $1.50 ppd Forrest J Ackerman - 6475 Metro Stn, Los Angeles 55 CAN YOU STAND A CHOCK? THE SECOND ISSUE OF V E N U S IS READY TO MAIL!
