21 films to ever come out of H'wood, and anybody that doesn't see it is a schnook. Went back to the hotel, where McCain, Heisner, and myself clanned together, bounced about the lobby for a while, and then went upstairs, and talked and talked and talked and.....etc. The fest was ended when McCain said we could sleep in his room or at the motel, whichever we wished, and began to prepare for bed. Thoroughly frightened that in sleep his true and awful form might be released from its thin, human shell,we scuttled homeward, stopping on the way for a sandwich. --I seem to have subsisted at the con, in retrospect, on Crab Louie, myriad fish, and sandwiches. The next morning we were dead to the world. Woke up at 10:00, when the meetings of the fan clubs should have started their sessions. Charles didn't even want to go (as usual) but ye edde persuaded him, and off we went; we arrived, yawning, at 10:45; the sessions had barely started. Everyone else, it seems, had overslept, too. The whole thing was interesting; mainly Sneary, and Mari Wolf, against, and with GM Carr and others for, long regional cons. This went on until about 12:30, when some of us decided we were hungry. The meeting was almost re-formed, however, until ye edde set an example and left. Others saw his point of view also. Thus did ye edde break up a meeting of that great and glorious fan-club, the Neff. Somewhere about this point, I met Stew Metchette, and along with McCain and Heisner, went out and snapped a couple of pictures for Cholly and then ate together. --I think it was the 4th....absent-minded me.... At 2PM there was a short session of Discussion and voting on resolutions and selections of 1951 Convention site.....New York, New Orleans, and Detroit bid, with New Orleans winning the con by over 70 votes above its nearest competitor, Detroit. Needless to say, Charles and Harry were ecstatic. The meeting adjourned; an author - publisher debate was scheduled for 3:30 PM. Ye edde was now feeling the effects of not getting his usual eight hours' sleep ( went to bed at 4:30 the previous morning) and could not attend. Instead, I sleepily crawled up to to HBMoore's room, where Moore was also asleep. I was let in amidst mutterings and curses;and flopped on the bed...sound asleep for two hours, until Heisner knocked on the door and asked to be let in. Moore awoke thoroughly this time, and so, to a certain extent did Johnson. Charles got whatever he wanted in for, and departed, towing a somewhat drowsy Johnson after him. Chas dragged me back to the motel, and we changed our clothes for the banquet that night (also took another bath.) I grabbed my costume, and we hopped into the car and rushed back to the convention hall. The banquet was lovely. Lots of food. I got to sit at the table with Bea Mahaffey. Who wants food!.. Getting back to the banquet, I gather that at least a deficit of $1.50 per plate was made up by the Norwescon treasury plus the dollar we paid for tickets. It was really a feed! Entertainment was afforded through the dancing of Miss Norma Hague (dressed as Miss Mars). Jean Bogert, Nancy Moore, and Frank Dietz showed up en masque at the fanquet, but most of the fen waited until later to change clother. There was a recess, soon after the banquet, so those who wished to change into costumes would do so, and the floor could be cleared for dancing. ye edde rushed upstairs to
