5. ENGLISH AS SHE IS WROTE FROM "SURVIVORS FROM 9000 B.C." IN "AMAZING STORIES" JULY, 1941 "Tell your men to keep their hand off of me----" FROM "SUNSPOTS" "There is very little we can say, that has not already been said, it is so, that we leave it to you, our readers, as you read this, to stop and give a moment of thought to a great fan----" FROM "BATURNIAN OCCURANCE" IN "SUN SPOTS" VOLUME 5 NO. 2 "Then the fatel day. War with Saturn. Blood thirsty killings over, as all the wars of before had been, an unknown reason. They mearly fought for the love of killing, to destroy God's commandments. My eyes atempted to turn from the sight, but they were unable to.-----" FROM "THE PIONEER" IN "STIRRING FANTASY-FICTION" VOLUME 1 NO. 3 "---The ship struck again, the blow cushioned as the shining projectile which had brought Peter Carson, sole earthman to have confidence in the noisu contraption, from New York City into the unkown." STILL ANOTHER MAN'S VIEWPOINT (In the last issue of The Reader and Collector I had the privelege of printing an abstract of a letter which dealt somewhat caustically with scientific-fiction fans. Once again, I take extreme pleasure in presenting below a couple of paragraphs from another personal letter which I recently received. As indicated in the letter, the writer is not a "fan". He is, however, well-known to the old-timers in the fantasy field and is quite prominent in journalism and science. He is one of best-informed and learned men it has been my good fortune to know.) "I'm not a "fan" in the ordinary sense; and I do not tie myself up with one class of fiction as against others (to say nothing of the many kinds of non-fiction of which I am a heavy reader and student). I enjoy well and vividly written novels and shorts of either the real world or the imaginary worlds. The Saint, Perry Mason, Kester Leith, Hercule Poirot, Nero Wolfe, the Park Avenue Junt Club, share my affection with the dwellers in Arkham, the Skylark, the Gray Lensman, Northeast Smith, Jirel of Joiry, Conan and Dracula, to name but a few outstanders in each
