Aug 23, 1945 My Dearest Evelyn, Hiya darling! Guess I'm a little late in writing again, but I've been occupied the past two evenings. Two days ago I was on guard all day until 5:00 in the morning. That rather took care of that day as far as writing is concerned. Yesterday, a kid from Iowa came down and got me to go to a small town about twenty miles from here to meet a bunch of kids from Iowa. We got there around noon and had quite a reunion. One of the kids was from Ft. Madison and I had run against him in track. All in all I really had a fine time. Got back at eleven o'clock last night. Went on guard first thing this morning and got off at noon. Since then I've
