52 1 Commission alleging an unlawful employment practice occur- 2 ring in a State or political subdivision of a State, which has 3 a State or local law prohibiting the practice alleged and 4 establishing or authorizing a State or local authority to grant 5 or seek relief from such practice or to institute criminal 6 proceedings with respect thereto upon receiving notice 7 thereof, the Commission shall, before taking any action with 8 respect to such charge, notify the appropriate State or local 9 officials and, upon request, afford them a reasonable time, 10 but not less than sixty days (provided that such sixty-day 11 period shall be extended to one hundred and twenty days 12 during the first year after the effective day of such State 13 or local law), unless a shorter period is requested, to act 14 under such State or local law to remedy the practice alleged. 15 (d) A charge under subsection (a) shall be filed 16 within ninety days after the alleged unlawful employment 17 practice occurred, except that in the case of an unlawful 18 employment practice with respect to which the person 19 aggrieved has followed the procedure set out in subsection 20 (b), such charge shall be filed by the person aggrieved 21 within two hundred and ten days after the alleged unlawful 22 employment practice occurred, or within thirty days after 23 receiving notice that the State or local agency has terminated 24 the proceedings under the State or local law, whichever
