5. Concern yourself with local government activities. Persuade local government leaders to set up an advisory committee on race relations, and help this committee perform its functions. Be on the alert for discriminatory practices on the part of law enforcement agencies, and bring any cases to the attention of appropriate authorities. 6. Maintain contact with other anti-discrimination groups in your own and adjacent areas, as well as with national groups. Often you will discover the problems you are facing for the first time have already been faced and dealt with successfully in other communities. The Metropolitan New York Association of Fair Housing Committee is an existing organization created expressly for such liaison activities. Other states and areas have similar organizations. The National Committee Against Discrimination in Housing, 426 W. 58th Street, New York 19, New York, publishes an excellent bi-monthly newspaper dealing with nationwide activities in this field. 27
