ORDINANCE NO. AN ORDINANCE TO REESTABLISH THE BURLINGTON HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, PROVIDING FOR ITS STRUCTURE AND POWERS, DEFINING AND PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES, AND ESTABLISHING ENFORCEMENT PROCEDURES THEREFOR. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGTON, IOWA: SECTION 1. Sections 2-9-1 through 2-9-6 of the Burlington City Code are hereby repealed, and there is enacted in lieu thereof the following: DIVISION 1. HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION. 2-9-1: APPOINTMENT; TERMS: The Burlington human Rights Commission consists of 9 members, appointed by the Mayor with advice and consent of the City Council. Three of the first appointees shall serve on year, three shall serve two years and three shall serve three years. Subsequent appointees shall serve for a term of three years and thereafter until a successor has been appointed. Vacancies shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term. Appointments shall take into consideration the various racial, religious, cultural and social groups in the city. 2-9-2: COMPENSATION; EXPENSES: The members of the Commission serve without compensation. However, they may receive actual and necessary expenses incurred, within the limits established in the city budget.
