- 2- CLERGY CONSULTATION SERVICE: This is a nationwide effort of clergy, in conjunction with "Planned Parenthood", to counsel with persons concerned about problem pregnancies. In Iowa, it is composed of more than 70 clergy. The caseload has varied, but averages from three to five cases per week for Simpson. The trend is toward more, not fewer, cases. This has resulted in direct contact with the political structure in seeking to speak and discuss publicly the issues of ethics, freedom, health care and legislation. (Structural and pastoral ministry. Simpson involved.) IOWA ASSN. FOR MEDICAL CONTROL OF ABORTION: Growing out of the Clergy Consultation Service, state and local meetings have been attended, and a local affiliate is being formed to work for changes in Iowa law to permit greater freedom for women and for doctors to determine matters relating to problem pregnancies, and health care. (Prophetic and structural ministry. Simpson involved.) DRUG CONFERENCE, ETC: Various conferences and discussions have taken place on the drug issues in which this Board and its Campus Ministes have been involved. A major conference-workshop "DRUGS AND SOCIETY" featured Dr. Joel Fort. (Prophetic ans pastoral ministry. Shively and Board member Scaff were major participants and planners; Sally Smith was a participant.) SCRANTON COMMISSION REPORT: STUDY AND EVALUATION FOR U/IOWA. Initiated by the Campus Ministers' Assn., this group met for a series of analytic discussions with representatives attending from: administration, faculty, student body, Board of Regents, City government, Civil Defense, with interested citizens helping. This was one of the two known efforts in the nation to attempt this. Reports were finalized and directed to relevant entities of the University and community. (Prophetic and structural ministry. Simpson involved.) UNIVERSITY INTERPRETATION TASK FORCE: This is the Board's original effort to take initiative to seek invitations from Church groups in Eastern Iowa, to go out and interpret higher education and the current University scene. It has been a most sucessful and highly satisfactory effort. Invitations have been received from the following: Mt. Pleasant - First Presbyterian Phil Day, Ellyn Taft, Roger S. Burlington - First U.C.C. Bo Beller, Dr. Phil Hubbard, Dr. Dee Norton, Kathy Simoniac, Phil Shively, Larry Wood Cedar Rapids - First Christian Kathy king, Fred Leone, Fred Thomas, Sally Smith Kalona - United Christian & Batist Sally Smith, Eric Schiller, & another student Vinton - Presbyterian Fort Madison - Christian Washington - Presbyterian Phil Shively, Fred Thomas INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEWS, CONTACTS, REFERRALS: An on-going aspect of the Campus Ministry is the number of interviews for radio, TV and the press that occur throughout the year. In addition, articles, pamphlets and books are surveyed and sometimes sent or referred to in communication with persons in the University and community. (Prophetic and structural ministry. Smith, Shively, Simpson all involved.) DRAFT COUNSELING AND INFORMATION: This continues to be a major issue for students and society generally. A significant segment of time is devoted to study, counseling, and speaking on this issue. (Prophetic and pastoral ministry. Shively and Simpson involved.) (continued overleaf)
