[clipped newspaper heading taped in scrapbook] SYNOD OF IOWA UNITED PRESBYTERAIN CHURCH of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA THE IOWA UNITED PRESBYTERAIN [emblem of coat of arms with the words "[?] CENTRAL ASSEMBLY OF THE UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"] July, 1971 Vol. XX No. 3 The Iowa United Presbyterian July, 1971 TASK FORCE STUDIES HIGHER EDUCATION The Christian Education Committee of the Synod of Iowa has established a Task Force on Higher Education to study the relationship of the church to all areas of higher education. With the great increase in the number of people who go on to college and universities seeking advanced degrees, the church's responsibility grows in many areas. The church's response to that responsibility has failed to keep pace with the growth. The Task Force, under the chairmanship of Rev. Andrew Hofer, of Audubon, is seeking to draw into focus the mission of the church in the university community, through its established congregations, through its campus ministries and special campus programs, as well as to look at the church's obligation to provide opportunities for college education in church-related schools. In addition, the proliferation of community colleges and junior colleges in cities all over the country adds a dimension to the church's responsibility which, in most areas is untouched. Add to those things the large number of foreign students who come from overseas to seek an education in American schools, and the great number of American young people who go abroad for education, and the magnitude of the problem begins to become apparent. All this, and more, is within the purview of the Task Force which is only now beginning to get ahold of its task. [photo of the Task Force] Seated L. to R.: Rev. Warren Frahm, Ames; Richard Simpson, Des Moines; Rev. L. Wayne Bryan, Des Moines; Miss Marilyn Meyer, Des Moines; Rev. Paul Bodine, Ames; [Miss?] Wendy Lyon, Cedar Falls; Standing: Rev. Andrew J. Hofer, Audubon; Dr. Malcolm [?], Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Mary Frances Allen, Des Moines; Rev. Roger Simpson, Iowa [City?]
