April 16, 1971 TO: Persons attending the HEALTH CONGRESS and Annual Meeting of Johnson County Health Council. FROM: JOHNSON COUNTY HEALTH COUNCIL "HEALTH CONGRESS" Planning Committee: Mary Conatser, Geraldine Busse, Roger Simpson. REGARDING: Details of the HEALTH CONGRESS, Thursday, April 22, 7:30 PM, Public Library. 1. Purpose: "... to evaluate the current status of health care in Johnson County." Reference: letter of March 14, 1971. 2. Preparation: consider the SURVEY sheet (enclosed) and bring to meeting. 3. Methodology: "To serve as a forum to provide discussion", a) we will work in small discussion groups )and eschew lectures, etc.); b) we will focus on one area at a time, with the help of resource persons; c) after brief group reports on each topic, we will proceed to another topic; d) it is anticipated that TASK FORCES will evolve toward the end of the evening, consisting of interested persons choosing to work together on a specific issue, reporting back to another HEALTH CONGRESS, September 1971. AGENDA: 7:15-7:30 Registration. Receive materials (By-Laws, Annual Report, Agenda). A contribution of $1 is requested (or more if you can spare it) for meeting and mailing costs. ALL WHO REGISTER ARE ENFRANCISED WITH VOICE AND VOTE FOR HEALTH COUNCIL. 7:30 Welcome: Mrs. Mary Conatser, President, Johnson County Health Council. Annual Report, Nominating Committee Report. 7:40 Forum: Discussion topics and procedures. Roger Simpson. 7:45 Discussion Period I. (Referred to SURVEY sheet.) Topic: “Obstacles to identifying unmet health needs in Johnson County.” Convene in your assigned group (name-tag number). Choose chairman and reporter. 8:10 Group Reports, about 2 minutes each. 8:20 Discussion Period II Topic: “Obstacles to dealing with (working out solutions for) these unmet health needs.” 8:40 Group Reports 9:00 Discussion Period III Topic: “Whose primary responsibility is it to deal with these unmet needs? “How can this process of identification and problem-solving be improved?” 9:20 Group Reports 9:30 TASK FORCE: initial organization. Specific issues that surfaced during the evening will be possible foci for study, research, and action by interested persons. As these TASK FORCES are identified, persons interested in working on a particular area can convene and make plans for follow-up. Such plans might include: 1) Select convenor; 2) Get names, addresses, phone numbers of all interested; 3) Select time, place to meet and talk; 4) Give this data to Mary Conatser or Roger Simpson. Another HEALTH CONGRESS is projected for September 1971, at which time the TASK FORCES could report. NOTE: Hoover Health Council contacts include: Dr. Stanley Greenwald, Mrs. Janet Shipton.
