REPORT OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ON RECOMMENDATIONS SUBMITTED BY TASK FORCE October, 1971 Dr. Ian Smith, Chairman 1. Conduct a survey in Johnson County: Accept need for survey -- will sponsor open meeting for January to explore methods, needs, and "arrange for material and speakers so that magnitude of survey can be understood" and accept the offer of Dr. Ian Smith to assist with plans. A plan for fulfillment of needs and services would be expected result of study. 2. Health Education: a. Assume responsibility for health column in press. The Executive Committee does not see health education, in this sense, as a responsibility of the Health Council inasmuch as it does not hire staff for supervision of press releases. A letter was forwarded to the Hoover Health Council suggesting follow-up of this recommendation on a regional basis. Dr. Smith offered to act as medical advisor. b. Hold a "Health Care Teach-In". Recommendation accepted, suggested that this recommendation be considered for the Annual Meeting of the Health Council. c. Offer a Food Handlers Course to 4-H Fair participants, lunch counter operators. Will refer to Mr. Fisher for comment and review. d. Maintain a Roster of Trained Speakers. A list is presently being collected by the Public Library, Resource Department. e. Assist with updating of "The Directory of Health and Welfare Services". A service of the Public Library Resource Department. f. Establishment of 24 hour Information Service. No Action. 3. Compile a detailed definition of extent and limits of service of existing service groups. Believed to be incorporated in Public Library data. 4. Form a Planning Committee. a. Review Iowa Law - Chapter 346A (Financial Aid Available 100,000pop.). Recognize need for legislative action -- a letter is being written to City Council to encourage follow-up on recommendation from Executive Committee to inform cities and towns of legislative requirements regarding financing through League of Iowa Municipalities.
