Questions on "THE GENERATION GAP AND THE CHURCH" Page 2 Priest: When anyone goes to a Catholic church are they made to feel welcome? How much money does a church expect to receive? Why should young Catholics go to church when the Pope is advocating over-population and death by not allowing birth control? I believe that the young people are upset with the church structure rather than a belief in God...would you comment on this theory? What do you think of the modern day "Jesus freaks?" Why do we need a church? Do you think that the generation gap in church could be eliminated if the churches would go back to teaching the Bible and the word of God as Jesus taught it? All: What do you have to offer kids in the way of a relationship to God? What difference does it make whether you know Him or not? Barry: Why have you chosen people who are so obviously of one mind? It's assumed from the group that all kids don't relate to the church. Why is it that sometimes a church starts something that's "good", than the hierarchy stops the church from continuing? (Cite the discharge of Pastor Paul in Iowa City.....and the fact that the free clinic in Iowa City cannot prescribe birth control pills.) Priest: How can you expect young people to stay in church when nuns in catechism tell you that to kiss over three-seconds is a mortal sin "and stuff like that?" There is a man that has a daughter who's a senior at the University of Iowa.... all four years the professors have been teaching that there is no God.....Comment on that. Why is the church so against legalizing drugs? Why aren't there more Bible schools for the study of the Bible and its relativity to an individual's everyday life? How can this conversation be carried on with no word about God? So far discussion has been about structured religions, the churches, with no discussion about God. Religion often seems to be more a battle among religious groups with no concentration on shared fundamental beliefs. It hasn't been too many years ago that church doors were open but now they are locked. Why? If non-Catholics would also teach religion in the schools, there would not be such a great generation gap. Comment on this statement please. What direction would you like to see the churches take?
