Mark Larson, Chairman University Interpretation Task Force c/o UCCM Board October 6, 1970 MEMO: To Pastors, Boards, and Church Groups REGARDING: An opportunity for interpretation of the University scene by persons from the University community. This letter seeks an answer to two questions: 1. Do you have, in your Church (or another community organization) a need and desire for direct interpretation of the University scene by persons from the University? 2. If so, would you extend us an invitation for a specific date, time, and occasion? We have received indications that there is need for more direct, personal communications about the University scene (including "mood", student power, religious values, economic and political views, etc.) by persons in and about the University. As such need is identified and specific invitations received, we will make every effort to respond with teams of from 2 to 4 persons, as broadly representative as possible (age, area, attitudes, etc.), to travel to your area for this purpose. The type of presentation could vary, but would include some introductory statements (5-10 minutes), and then continue with dialogue, discussion, and questions. A minimum of 30 minutes should be allowed for the initial presentations. We would expect that expenses (travel and meals) would be covered, and your normal honorarium would probably not be refused. Possible occasions, to which we would seek to respond, might include both formal (worship, etc.) and informal (youth groups, etc.) situations. We would seek to select persons interested in and capable of responding to the specific invitation. As you can see, this will require a lot of work and planning here to respond to such invitations. It is imperative, therefore, that we get your invitation at the earliest possible date. Dates at noon during the week will be difficult to fill, and the preferable times would probably be afternoons, evenings, and weekends. For the total welfare of the Church and the communities, we hope that such efforts at communication will advance understanding and mutual respect. P.S. We also consider it important to meet with Boards, study and planning committees of the church and community. Sincerely yours, [actual signature] Mark Larson, Chairman University Interpretation Task Force
