years--cut in wages and higher prices have helped make this possible. Yhey have much to gain from the Labor Department's plan ... at the expense of US wage-earners and consumers. Secretary Schultz also attacked the GE strike as "inflationary", and has set as an immediate national goal the lowering of construction wages as his first target. WHO IS LABOR SECRETARY SCHULTZ??? FRIEND OF LABOR??? George Shultz' background qualifies him very well for his job. He is on the Board of Directors of J.I. Case Co. (employs 14,000 workers) Borg-Warner Co. (38,000 workers) Stein, Roe and Farnham Stock Fund Stein, Roe and Farnham Balanced Funds Prior to his present job he was Dean of the University of Chicago Gratuate School of Business. George Shultx is not dumb--neither are the corporations whose profits his programs defend. The Department of Labor is in no way the protector of the working man's interests. The matters of inflamation, as well as others, show it has clearly been his enemy. ALLY WITH GE & OTHER WORKERS FOR REAL STRENGTH We feel that our interests as students lie with GE and other workers, not with their bosses. Most students will become workers of some kind, like teachers and social workers. In these jobs we will face the same squeeze and need ti fight back. Students are also very actively opposing US imperialism. But are students capable of stoppong America's imperialist wars? Even if we were to shut down every university in the country, we would not approach the power that American workers have. When N.Y. transit workers went on strike several years ago, they shut down the entire city for two weeks, crippling the major financial center of the world. Working people are hurt the most by U.S. imperialism, and they alone have the power to end it. We feel that the only progressive place the anti-war movement can go to in this country is the working class, not liberal government spokesmen. Strikes are the only reccurse the majority of people have to improve their conditions. Workers can't ask for improvements--big business is not run on kindness, but profits. Bosses can draw on the cops, the courts, the national guard, the Labour Department, etc. Workers have only their bodies, and strength lies in unity. SUPPORT G.E.
