SDS to Circulate Petition Condemning Dec. 5 Charges 11/26/69 Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) made plans Monday night to circulate a petition during the week of Dec. 2 which would advocate dropping the charges against the men indicted for conspiracy in connection with last year's Dec. 5 antiwar demonstration and criticize the the character of the charges and the way in which they were made. SDS will also distribute leaflets condemming " the repressive character of American jurisprudence" and the way in which laws are manipulated, according to Ross Peterson, A3, Des Moines. The chapter also collected money to send a delegation to the Eastern Iowa Model United Nations. The delegation will attempt to point out the problems of the working classes in the country which it represents, and will also take a stand against American imperialism. Members also discussed forming a Chinese delegation to walk into the model U.N. and demande admittance. No decision was made. Plans for a rally on Dec. 6 were shelved due to lack of support and sufficient issues to base the rally on. Mike Lally, G, Iowa City, said the chapter should write more leaflets and talk to more people, rather than stage so many demonstrations. Lally described the friday confrontation with Pres. Howard R. Bowen to discuss the Crescent Electric contract as a possible educational situation. "Everybody there should have taken the opportunity to get some kind of dialogue going, and not just wait to see what others would do," he said.
