Students for a Democratic Society is militant nationwide organization of black, white, Latin, American Indian, and foreign students. It is dedicated to fighting all the ways the schools are used against the people--to attack black and Latin people, to justify the oppression of women, and to support the war in South East Asia.and U.S. imperialism. We want to unite students with working people and professionals, and with other militant groups too. FIGHT RACISM SDS chapters all over the country are fighting racist professors like Herrnstein (see over) and Banfield. Banfield's book The Unheavenly City says that poor people like living in slums, that they are action-oriented (especially toward sex), and that the violence of "lower class" people stems from mental illness(among other racist slanders). These ideas are taught to students in many "social science" courses all over the country. This reinforces racism and holds back students from supporting fights against welfare cuts and unemployment.
