4. FROM "AN OLD MARTIAN PROVERB" IN "SCIENCE FICTION" Volume 2, No. 5 "I am testing your statement" That is just the kind of a statement we you love to test. It helps make laboratory work interesting. FROM THE COVER OF "VOICE OF THE IMAGINATION" MARCH, 1941.--- showing a picture of a cute little two-year old with a blond bang. "U've been asking what sort of a 2 yr old this Ackerman is who edits THE VOICE--- Well, here I am!" That picture may come as a surprise to the rest of fandom, Forrie, my lad. But, not to me. I've know n it for a great many years. But, I was just a voice in the wilderness. FROM "SLAVES OF THE FISH MEN" BY EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS IN "AMAZING STORIES" Volume 3. No. 2 Page 16 "A large fish came out of the stream and sat down beside me.----I could not guess what was passing in his mind, as a fish has but one expression." Page 20 "One couldn't tell, from their facial expressions, the mental reactions of these Myposans, because like true fish, they didn't have any. Page 28 "I suppose the fellow was unhappy, for his gills fluttered. I couldn't tell, of course, by the expression on his face; as that never changed. Like all of the rest of his kind, he had no facial muscles to reflect his moods. I got you the first time, Edgar, old timer. You don't have to get so fanatical about it; after all three times in twelve pages is putting it on a little thick, don't you think? Or don't you? I understand fish don't perspire, either. Check into that some day, won't you? FROM "FANTASY FICTION FIELD" Volume 12, No. 3 "----flash from Frederick Pohl, editor of Astonishing and Super---there will be no June issue of the first mentioned of the two magazines." Well, that's good news. Now, if Editor Pohl could only be persuaded to issue the same statement for the August, October, December, February and April issues everybody would be happy. And, if he would send out similar news regarding Super covering the other six months my cup of joy would be filled to overflowing.
