THE FANTASITE 15 almost three times the wait required for the previously mentioned newsmags, the situation is rectified by pages, color mimeography, and supplements all combining to surpass the wordage of the other two. Perhaps Fantasy News, Fantasy Times (under new title), and Ludowitz's announced newsrag will pull out of their slump to aid even further the field of news coverage. There can never be too many news magazines, as long as they prove timely, for it is almost impossible to cover thoroughly the entire stfield. Foreign newsmagazines are as follows: Futurian Fan Editor, and Futurian Observer, Australia; Futurian War Digest, England. And there shall be more, much more, friends. It seems that it is in the best interests that the Pacificon be dropped for the duration of the war. If conventions are deemed feasible, on a national scope of some sort, it would be a good policy to hold them conjointly at opposite ends of the nation. After all, it is all fine and well for fans on the Pacific Coast to say "go ahead and hold it; we'll be there, so why shouldn't the rest of fandom?". That's hardly a fair attitude, for after all the draft is the least of our worries. These days the main factor is defense industries which take more and more of fanning time. So, while a limited few might be able to attend, there are hardly any major fans who could afford to break away for ten days to attend a national convention. Is there one among us who can afford to shell out with 150 dollars for railroad fare, coast-to-coast and back? Hardly. So, as with many suggestions, if there need be a gathering in certain vicinities, of which hardly any fan disapproves, let us call it a conference, and never let us call it a convention unless a twin situation might be arranged. Setting the Atlantic Seabord at Ease: there is no longer any need to worry about wearing out rubber tires before the duration has passed. Latest reports indicate that no fan will get enough gas to drive his car that far. Grave Cause for Worry Among Promags: it seems that Starlit Fantasy, the Handler-Schmarje opus, is paying all of five cents a page for material single-spaced. While this adds to the confusion already begun by Snide and Sweetness and Light, it will be a severe set-back to "Slan!der" which considered the epitome of Guesty gestures to be in Starlight and Twilight. Li'l did he suspect that from out of the midwest... Where All is Truly Sincere and Far from Humorous: for long had I been searching, hunting, yearning...I had remembered him from that notable summer session, in special the final night at the big banquet, when we had stolen away from all to pass our time in mild, mellow sessioning which only a true specie of jive-hound may understand. He had been a, well, just a "swell pal" throughout the night, throughout the entire time. And when came the end, and we were to part, we promised each other to meet again the next time. Indeed, later we did manage to get a card and one letter across and back, he out there and I by the sun-licked shores of the Pacific. Long did I search for him when he stated he would move; long did I hunt out one of the finest friendships ever made in such a short time. Where could he have gone? And then I knew--- I looked at those glaring headlines of newsmag and think I did weep a little: for now I knew where he had moved, and I do hope that he is happy there-- Al McKeel in the Great Beyond where fanmags are good, promags are free, and wild swing jives out every day. Change the Setting: for much may be said about the back pages of the latest issue of Merk and Si. George Ebey explains that it might be said as follows: "There is no truth to the rumor that the editor absent-mindedly applied nitric acid instead of mimeograph ink to his mimeograph for the last page of Merk. The former club editor merely forgot to take off the typewriter ribbon when he cut the stencil. And the reason for the poor stenciling of the last page of Si was due to the fact that the editors while turning the crank,
