BAY AREA NEWS No. 4 free strictly local news and the GGFS free June 15 The latest meeting of the Golden Gate Futurians (Sun. 9th of June) was a mere bull session involving Everett Wyers, John Cockroft, Raj Rehm, and I. George Caldwell couldn't come for of all things he had to mind a small child. We haven't heard from Bob Luehr, but Cockroft relates a tale of the boy taking flying lessons. Hope he doesn't drop in on us some day. Lostweekend Smith phoned at the 11th hour saying he couldn't make it because of a fence building project in which he was the chief inspector, chief contractor, and head laborer. Joe Fortier and Tom Wright we have no knowledge of. Friday night we received a call from a drunken Fortier, and a politely stinkoad Wright; they wanted us to forsake a comfortable bed for a hard chair and play poker with them. Wyers was the first one to go home and shortly after he left, a friend of mine dropped by. Seeing that it was around six o'clock I decided to go out and have a little fun. Throwing my wolf-skin over my shoulder we all hopped in my pal's car and went uptown. Cockroft caught the train to San Francisco; and Rehm caught a street car for the island of Alameda (it really is, 100,000 pop. too!) Looking for some girls to get acquainted with so we could have some nice clean fun, we passed a place that served liquid refreshment, so we naturally stopped. On the street again, I lost my nerve and thought I needed another beer to buck me up so we halted again (gud I was gutless that night!). After innumerable beers and several rebuffs my pal makes a remark, "Out of about a million people on this side of the Bay and we can't find two girls to get acquainted with; pretty sad!" Figuring ruffly two million around the Bay Area I wonder why there weren't more fans. Finally the same conclusion was reached that answered my friends statement and my question, could it be me? After all I'm supposed to be the big wheel around here, chairman of the GGFS and all, why don't I recruit some fen? Answer: I'm lazy. ARE you going to the Pacificon? Not that anyone cares, but Everett Wyers, John Cockroft, Jack Riggs, and Joe Fortier, and possibly Rehm will be there, representing the GGFS'ers that are unable to go. A vote for the next World Convention to be held in Philadelphia is in order from all attendees at the Pacificon. They have been held in New York, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, so why not give the Easterners a break? A Convention is a lot of work, and needs plenty of helping hands, the PSFS has about 20 members that page 1
