THE YANKEE SOLDIER'S VOW [Image of a soldier holding a rifle at ease with a plane and American flags flying over him and an eagle with spread wings and open mouth at his feet.] I pledge my soul to freedom. / And offer up my life. / America shall never fall. / Will never lose the strife. There's tramping feet and rolling tanks, / And airplanes up on high. / Soldiers die in useless war. / While mothers wait and cry. Justice cannot fail to win, / We'll blaze across the sky / The words we treasure in our hearts, / "For Freedom We Will Die!" This is my own, my native land, / They shall not enter here. / They'll never touch the Stars and Stripes, / Nor teach my people fear. Florence Adelaide Reed Copyright, 1942 Rochester, N. Y.
