PSFS News Page 8 it[[?]] the present time, the officers are: Oswald Train, President; Jack Agnew, Secretary; John Beltadonis, Treasurer; and Edward Kravitz, our most recent aquisition, Trustee--to act as a check on all the other officers. Among the science fiction celebrities who have visited the PSFS are Julius Schwartz, Charles D. Hornig, Mort Weisinger, Jack Speer, Willis Conover, Jr. (Honorary Member), Donald A. Wollheim, George R. Hahn, etc. The PSFS has sponsored three great science fiction gatherings--the Philadelphia conventions of 1936 and 1937, and the Science Fiction Conference of 1938. The first convention was held with the PSFS members as hosts. Thsi affair was a spontaneous affair formulated by Don Wollheim, Will Sykora, and other members of the New York Branch of the International Scientific Association. It was, incidentally, the first inter-city gathering of science fiction fans that really amounted to anything. With this meeting as a base, the Second Eastern Science Fiction Convention was held in New York. The recent Conference was voted as the most interesting and entertaining gathering ever held. Consequently, it can be seen that Philadelphia has been quite important when it comes to fan gatherings. As this is being written, it is rapidly approaching 1939. January, 1939, will mark four years of existance, a record which, we are sure, is far superior to that of any other chapter of the SFL. ONWARD WITH SCIENCE FICTION!
