ALCHEMIST 27 in 1916, nearly twenty-five years ago, although it had previously appeared in magazine serial form under the title of UNDER THE MOONS OF MARS. Due to the tremendous popularity that this novel and more particularly John Carter, the Warlord of Mars, achieved, Edgar Rice Burroughs decided to write further adventures concerning John Carter's experiences on Mars; and as a result THE GODS OF MARS was published; and then from time to time the succeeding Martian books made their appearance. That John Carter has become an institution, so to speak, in the minds of the American reading public is evidenced by the release more than a year ago of the John Carter romances in comic strip form in Funnies magazine book, a 10c periodical that is highly regarded by science-fiction readers from coast to coast. In addition, the John Carter romances have been translated and published in practically every country on earth and in the Esperanto tongue, the latter using for its title for the first book: PRINCINO DE MARSO. It is perhaps the only Martian tale ever to be published in Esperanto; and as a result has become a great favorite with Esperanto readers. To top off all of this, the publisher of Mr. Burrough's books, which incidentally is his own corporation, has now decided to reprint the various Martian titles to retail at 75c per copy. The books will have an entirely new "dress" and will take on a $2.00 book appearance. The text of the paper will be of better quality than that heretofore used, will be rough-edged and top-stained. The jackets will be cellophaned and the stories will be freely illustrated. The new Martian books will be known as the "Tarzana Edition" and will be numbered beginning with A PRINCESS OF MARS as the first Mars novel, THE GODS OF MARS, as the second Mars novel,
