About three years ago I built a gigantic cupboard, open on both sides, designed to fit into my corner of the attic, to which my collection is relegated. At that time my little collection was more or less lost in one corner of the towering shelves, and I fondly believed there would be room for expansion for many, many years to come. What a fool! After moving in this year's accumulation I find that: 1) The cupboard is completely filled on both sides 2) There is no room for Famous Fantastic Mysteries, Planet Stories, Marvel Stories, Dynamic, Dusty Ayres, Doctor Death, Terence X. O'Leary, etc., etc., etc. 3) To get in all Astoundings it is necessary to put a double row of them on top of the cupboard, and the mags mentioned above go in a row along the wall behind it 4) There is no room for nine years of Weird Tales -- they too can go along the wall, forming two more rows and burying the other magazines out of sight 5) There is no room for my bound excerpts -- they can go on top of the Weird Tales, burying them 6) There is no room for books -- they can be stacked to the ceiling on top of the Weird Tales, burying them (woops, I'm behind the time -- I mean on top of the excerpts) 7) There is no room for unbound excerpts, and they can be packed away in a huge cardboard box. What a life! I can foresee the day when there won't be room for me in the attic, and it will take a gigantic exploration expedition to locate any one magazine. Right now there are some magazines I wouldn't guarantee to unearth in less than half an hour's careful moving. Note to those sponsoring LA's version of Futurian House: When and if I move in, I want three rooms -- two for my collection and one for me." & with this illuminating letter on the trials & tribs of a collector, we close the correspondence section for this ish. We'll be back in Oct with Milty, Ted Carnell, Jack Speer, Beverly Browne, Lew Torrance, Elmer Perdue &-- how about U? "RV" THE BOOKWORM
