President's Message. January 1st, 1946, a magic date, the beginning of a great year for the NATIONAL FANTASY FAN FEDERATION if we all work together and work hard. First: I meant all of the things I said before the election and I still mean them. My endorsement of various candidates during the election was not prompted by any ulterior motives or thirst for power. It was, and is, my belief the platforms and plans, as announced by the individuals, would do the most good for the National Fantasy Fan Federation. As it is my opinion, based on previous experience in fraternal organizations, candidates whose ideas of service to the organization are sincerely meant make the best officers. I based my opinions on letters and publications of the individuals and the endorsement was unsolicited by the candidates. The general good of the N.F.F.F. was the only consideration. Second: I believe that any volunteer workers on committees, etc. should retain their positions, if they desire to do so. Would all such workers please drop me a card stating what they have been doing; if they wish to continue in the same position or desire a change, and the name of the person whom they have been making their reports to. Third: Appointments: Charles Tanner has accepted the appointment of Official Editor. The ideas expressed by him and his plans for the Official Organ are very worthwhile and, I'm sure, will be pleasing to everyone. Ed Counts has accepted the appointment as Chairman of the Board of "Trouble Shooters" for the Constitution. He will select his own committee and report through the proper channels. Al Betts has accepted the appointment as part of a committee to select an emblem or the NFFF. One other was appointed to work with him but the member has not been heard from in reply to the appointment. Ron Maddox has been appointed Chairman of the Welcom Committee. For the time being I am retaining the post of Projects-Coordinator until we can get the entire set up on paper and know just where we stand. In the meanwhile I have a long list of projects on file and any suggestions are welcome. I believe that we should get the desk cleared of old business before taking on new though. Fourth: Last year several complaints came to our attention and the attention of President Tucker concerning faults in the Constitution. These were all pidgeon-holed for consideration during 1946. It is very interesting to note that none of those complaints even suggested that the Constitution be "junked" all believe that some portion of the Constitution needed only rewording or ammending to fix it up. One of the new Directors, when being acquainted with the situation, suggested that the Constitution be abandoned and a new one devised. Such a step is inadviseable, in our opinion. It would be just as adviseable to junk a new car rather than fix a faulty part. Those with suggested adjustments are requested to send their suggestions to Ed Counts. Fifth: Under the Constitution it becomes necessary that any member who did not vote in the annual election be dropped from the rolls. It is our opinion, and that of the Board of Directors, that there are extenuating circumstances. The extent to which one may go in excusing a member from 2
