1. A simplified constitution such as the one proposed by Speer. An alternative should provide at least for a single governing board, simple rules for elections, qualifications of candidates, and a statement guaranteeing the average member a right to vote, hold office, and carry on discussions in the official organ. 2. Improved fan awards system. 3. An official organ that appears reasonably often and carries a full account of executive and board actions including an account on how the various executives and Directors voted on various actions. The O.O. should also include a letter column so that anyone may state their views without writing an entire article. 4. Appearance of the printed fan anthology. 5.Coordination of various indexes that are being worked on by more than one person. I also believe that certain projects (such as the microfiliming idea), should be given further discussion by the membership. There are various projects that one person has not been able to successfully sponsor and I believe that the NFFF should offer to take over. The Unger supplements are an instance. * * * Phillip A Schumann: Fandom: In 1941 I joined the NFFF and found it to be a promising organization dedicated to the creation and promotion of further fan activities, to prove both entertaining and beneficial to the science fantasy fan...both members and non-members. Therefore, of course, a few organizational difficulties. After three years in the USAAF, I returned to fandom close to the end of 1945. I discovered the NFFF to be a promising organization--still. The organizational difficulties still existed, with but few changes in names, places and events. I'm interested in projects and activities and ideas, the latter being foremost, so far as I and most of my correspondents are concerned. If elected, I shall attempt to do as much as I can to further the enthusiasm for the original intentions of the organization--to promote a variety of interesting projects and, as first move, to help promote solutions to organizational difficulties that exist, since they seem to have balked quite a bit of that original purpose. My personal assets are neither outstanding nor obscure. I feel as good as most and as bad as most. What might be helpful to you personally is the fact that I am sincerely interested in seeing results obtained, and I am thoroughly willing to spend my time and effort in seeing them obtained. And I like you. Sincerely, Phillip A. Schumann ((Praise Allah! Somebody likes us. It might be added that Lonn Brazier submitted a brilliant endorsement of Schumann, something that would have made a fine article in itself; we are sorry time and space (in Tnff, of course, not extra-terrestial) did not permit its inclusion.)) * * * Rick Sneary: I hereby inter this petition for candidacy as a member of the Board of Directors. If I am elected I pledge that... 1. I will put the interest of the club above all personal prejudices and animosities. And that no matter how I feel about the other officers I will always do my best to work with them for the good of the club and fandom. Something that has been noticeably lacking in the present administration. 2. I will do my best to think of and encourage usefull projects that will be of servis to the average fan. I will also gladly listen to any ideas any member has, and if it has any merit I will personal see 8
