illegal alien population is true in Chicago and its also true in Iowa. The problems, the confrontations, the racial overtones of the enforcement of the law are also here in Iowa. We have illegals in (illegible) very large the Spanish-Speaking population in the State of Iowa is not Mexican and not white. Over 19% of the Chicanos in Iowa were born in this country. So they are American citizens by birth, the remaining can be Am citizens by choice or they may be legal resident aliens in this state. The legal resident alien category that makes up our state, and the myth that has been generated in the past, that all aliens are Mexicans, that all aliens are Latins, is not true. Over 90% of the alien population which presently live in Iowa is Western European. So that leaves a very small percentage that is derived from Latin America, of the remaining percentage by large the alien population is not necessarily from Mexico, but from South America itself. We do have some new problems taking place here in the state of Iowa the enforcement of the Immigration Naturalization Act. We do have, in some cases, in the police department of different cities, identifying us as the aliens, the Spanish-Speaking people are being questioned as to their legality in this country, and I don't think this is taking place throughout the population. It just so happens that we are brown, and it's just alittle easily understood and pointed out as aliens so consequently we are the aliens. So we have all of these enforcement agencies coming at us. We have state troupers stopping cars on the freeway and requesting legal documents or papers of our Mexicans, or Chicanos, Spanish-Speaking what you may call us.
