COMMENT
"El Jardín" (The Garden) is an acto seeking answers to perennial problems that are encountered by nuestra raza on a daily basis. The problems stem from the most fundamental social forces developed in this society-Christianity, history, culture, racism, and the Chicano Movement itself. The problems become even more dificult to overcome when we recognize that the present educational and political intitutions have created among us self-conceptualizations that are negative and detrimental to our well-being as people. The acto challenges all of us to probe and question the truth, the mythoplogy, and the attitudes that permeate our cultural environment in this country and shape our lives  and the future of our children into modern figurines with mestizo and indigenous facades and Western Europeans ethics and ideology. At the end, the acto reminds us that we as a people must not resort to hatred and violence to eradicate the injustices against us, for such actions would only have us become as racist as our enemy. Our search for liberation and self-determination must be a unified struggle achieved through non-violent means.

COMENTARIO
"El Jardín" es un drama que busca respuestas a los problemas perennes que nuestra raza ha encontrado perpetuamente. Los problemas nacen de las fuerzas sociales mas fundamentales que se han desarollado en esta sociedad - el Cristianismo, la historia, la cultura, el racismo, y el Movimiento Chicano mismo. Los problemas llegan a ser aún más difícil para superar cuando nosotros reconocemos que las instituciones políticas y educativas actuales han producido entre nosotros el elemento de auto-denigración que ha prejudicado nuestro nuenestar como pueblo. El drama supone un desafío a todos nosotros a interrogar acerca de la verdad, la mitología, y las actitudes que penetran nuestro ámbito cultural en este país y transforman nuestras vidas y el futuro de nuestros niños en figurinas modernas con fachadas de indio y mestizo pero con ética e ideología europea. Al final, el drama nos hace recordar que nosotros, como pueblo, no debemos valernos del odio y de la violencia para erradicar las injusticias que sufrimos. Tales acciones sirverían solo para transformarnos en un pueblo tan racista como nuestro enemigo. Nuestra búsqueda por liberación y auto-determinación debe realizarse en forma de lucha unida y medios no-violentos.
