Minutes of meeting Oct.14, 1979 -- page 3 to do some paintings of several important Black figures in the University of Iowa's history, which were donated to the University of Iowa and now hang in the Terrace Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. The BAA holds a reunion every year and it is primarily a social event providing for a whole weekend to renew old friendships across different years of graduating classes. Usually, part of the reunion registration fee is tagged for scholarship funds, i.e. registration = $65-$85 and approximately $25 of this would go towards the scholarship fund. The reunion is held the last weekend of July each year and with every ione taking place in Iowa. Traditionally, alumni come back at least once a year to attend an athletic event and at that time also meet with current students at the UI who will one day be alumni too. One service the BBA provide the students with is a list of professional alumni and other members who students can contact if they are interested in the firm/business/agency that member is employed by or owns. A Steering Committee takes care of business throughout the year. It also handles all mailing. The postage costs are covered with monies left over from the reunion and often, when these funds are depleted, the committee will use their personal financial resources or make other arrangements to accomodate their communications costs. For example, one committee member who was working at the Northwestern Illinois University, made arrangements with that institution to take care of the BAA's mailings with their bulk rate mailing permit. Colleen Jones said that Special Support Services may be able to help with the mailings for our initial attempts at contacting alumni and other prospective members. The need for this immediate techical assistance was recognized by all, as well as the need for identifying all prospective members prior to discussing criteria for selecting scholarship recipients.
