Minutes of meeting Oct. 14, 1979 -- page 5 Arturo added that there are seven alumni in Houston, TX, (Arturo & Marta Villalobos, Arnulfo & Sylvia Ramirez, and Irma & Roberto Castillo) who are concerned about using the acronym CASA since there is another CASA organization which deals with immigration. Unless a copyright on the acronym has been obtained, however, there should be no legal hassles. IV. Discussion of the association's title led to the issue of "Incorporation"; that is, it was felt, by some, that in the articles of incorporation, the title of the foundation should not exclude Indians since they have always been a part of the University of Iowa's cultural center and student union. It was suggested that the title be written as... the IOWA Chicano/Indian Alumni, Students & Amigos FOUNDATION. Leonard Aldaz made a motion to adopt this title and was seconded by Yoland Munoz. Before voting on this motion, Rusty Barcelo asked to make an amendment to it which would allow for the adoption of the title, as originally proposed by Arturo Ramirez and then, later meet with a group of Indian Americans to discuss their opinions of this second title and wheter it would be more acceptable to them. Leonard accepted these changes to his motion. It was announced that an Indian Conference is being planned for the spring at the University of Iowa, indicating that the Foundation try to get on the agenda to discuss this matter with conference participants. Elisa Sanchez-Pintor, a representative of Chicago alumni, asked, "Can we still incorporate and change the title later?" Arturo replied "yes," and added that we would not try to speak for the Indians now, (that) we should not try to patronize them. Finally, a vote was taken, and Leonard's motion, along with Rusty's amendment, was accepted by those in attendance at the meeting. Arturo then moved that Steve Rocha of Des Moines be selected to draw up the articles of incorporation and thereafter submit them to the Secretary of the State of Iowa.
