Minutes of meeting Oct. 14, 1979 -- page 7 VI. Rusty asked everyone to break into small workshops to discuss various aspects of the Iowa CASA Foundation. The first committee, chaired by Steve Rocha, would discuss PURPOSES & RATIONALE. The second committee, chaired by Rusty Barcelo, would work on ORGANIZATION to decide on Eligibility of Board Members & define Membership, i.e. Alumni = graduate with a degree, Students = those currently enrolled and those who at one time were registered for at least one (1) day, and Amigos = anyone else. The third committee, chaired by Celina Espinoza, would discuss FINANCING, i.e. membership fees, contributions, etc... The fourth committee, chaired by Elisa Sanchez-Pintor, was to develop a working list of ALUMNI & STUDENTS from old lists provided and from personal correspondence. The fifth committee, chaired by Miguel Teran, would identify prospective AMIGOS. VII. Workshops reconvened for reports on each others progress. A. PURPOSE & RATIONALE... were read by Steve who mede it clear that these were not by-laws. The purposes are important as an outline of the Foundation and can be added to/or changed in the future. 1. Discussion: a) Arturo Ramirez pointed out that there is strenght in numbers and is of the opinion that the Foundation should be established not only at the UI, but also at the University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University, and other colleges and universities of Iowa. b) Anthony Theodore objected to the usage of "conduct and implement" on the grounds that these terms made it sound as if CASA itself, was going to do research. c) Discussion continued that the purposes were too broad; as if we were trying to do more than we are able to do. Various other groups are "supossed" to do many of the things cited in the purposes but we can help guide them because we know our own needs and how best to approach our problems.
