STEFNEWS 8 sep 46 LASFS T - GW Several fans and authors were present to lend moral support as Tigrina competed with three other contestants on "Get That Story" last Wednesday evening and won a sum of thirty dollars for her efforts. Don Bratton, Theodore and Lisa Gottleib, AE van Vogt and wife, Sam Russell, and Forry Ackerman were among those attending. Jonne Evans also attended, seeing her first radio broadcast with father Everett. The program was followed by a visit to "Au Bazar du Grand Guignol", small hideaway Hollywood book store, on the part of Ackerman, Tigrina, Theodore, Lisa, and Sam Russell Forry had a brief visit with Ed Hamilton at the old LA meeting place, Clifton's Cafeteria, this week. Hamilton is spending two more weeks in Arcadia, then leaving for his Pennsylvania home. Frisco fan George Ebey visited LA for several days at the end of August; gabfests were highlighted by his tales of his merchant marine wanderings and New York fan contacts. PERSONALS JS-LM-CD Jack Speer out of circulation the rest of this month, working as a harvest hand till school reopens. STEFNEWS IS NEWS--SUBSCRIBE NOW PSFS RM With the clubroom in shape, the Philadelphia club has been having around 20 persons attending each meeting even through the summer. Larger meetings are expected after the summer holidays end. Some recent visitors have been George Wetzel, LA Eshbach, Tom Hadley, Ted Dikty, and Sam Moskowitz. A new member, Allison Williams, is taking over the editing of PSFS NEWS, expected to appear often. She is the daughter of a local book dealer who is also a member, having brought three other new members to the club. Plans are going ahead for the Philco which will be held 27 Oct. Samuel Loveman, an original member of the Lovecraft school, will be the featured speaker. There will be another speaker, usual fan confabs, and an auction. Discussions on semantics, religion, philosophy, Technocracy, stf classics, fans, and fan mags took up most of the meeting. Four memberships for the Centracon to be held in Chicago next month were taken.
