6 Page SCIENTI-SNAPS THE LIVING IDOL Part II By Henry Haskel Hunter Panting, gasping for breath, she implored, "Oh run, run! You can't stand against it! Save yourself, for me there is no escape." Akha was almost upon them not, his red-rimmed eyes blazing in the darkness. Pushing the girl aside, Stima whirled back his sword and slashed out. His blade crossed the monster's stomach, struck sparks as the metal rasped over unrelenting stone. [drawing of a monster face] With a single, disdainful gesture the creature swept Stima aside into a clump of bushes. As he lay there, Akha picked up the girl, thrust her head into his mouth. Her screams ended as two great jaws met. Stima staggered to his feet. He felt sickened by what he had just seen. His sight was dimmed by a red haze of fury. Blindly he rushed forward. Akha met him with a kick, flung him back into the bushes, then continued down the street. Stima laid there, battered and beaten. At times a faint scream floated to his ears. He knew that Akha feasted well that night.
