20 FANTASY DIGEST SECRET OF THE RING by THORNTON AYRE, MASTER OF TELEPATHY by EANDO BINDER, SPAWN OF THE RAY by MAURICE DUCLOS, REVOLUTION OF 1950 by STANLEY G. WEINBAUM, and GHOSTS OF MARS by FESTUS PRAGNELL The editors seem unwillingly willing (if you get what I mean) to take suggestions, and prove exasperating by their ox-like obstinacy in accepting readers opinion destined to be eventually for their own good. But aren't they all? It's hard to make a definite decision re the quality of the new Amazing Stories. We'll wait another six months if you don't mind. THRILLING WONDER STORIES, it seems, perks up only when competition is forcing it to the wall. They have proved that they can do a good job of the magazine, but are rather reluctant to over exert themselves. Their illustrations are generally of a good grade, with no particular artist ranking poor in my mind. Even Morey does better than usual for TWS. No kick about artistry. Brown is O.K. on the voers, and Wesso, Paul, Binder, Schomburg, Morey have been satisfactory on the inside. The stories on a whole seem to adhere to a passing fair quality which doesn't change until competition does. The fan departments are about the best of any magazine. The reader's department, SFL department, The Story Behind The Story, and Forecast, not to mention Binder's "If" are always the feature of the number. Their articles have a good general appeal and are all interesting. WILLY LEY'S work and C.P. MASON being particularly outstanding. As for stories. There have been no excellent ones in the past year and no very good ones either. The best of the lot were THE STAR PARADE by H. KUTTNER[?], HANDS ACROSS THE VOID BY WILL GARTH, THE METAL OCEAN by EANDO BINDERVIA ASTEROID and VIA DEATH by GORDON GILES, GLIMPSE by MANLEY WADE WELLMAN, THE DARK AGE by CLARK ASTON SMITH, EASY MONEY by EDMOND HAMILTON, WINGS ACROSS THE COSMOS by DOLTON[?] CROSS and COSMIC TELETYPE by CARL JACOBI.
