SCIENTIFUN###########[illegible]###########Page 6 SOUTHERN SLAN(T)S! Continued from page 5 poor Fuqua for "Hok Draws the Bow" (AMAZING) was put on sale. Gilbert bid the habitual 5¢. No one raised it. For the rest of the Conference, Joe endeavoured to sell the masterpiece for $1.25. Strange to say, no one accepted his generous offer. *** There is truth, much truth, to the rumor that 5¢ was all the money that Joe had in his pockets. At that time, Eastman had 16¢, which he paid for a Forte original, and Jenkins - koff! - had 28¢. The only originals that I wanted went for prices far and beyond my meager resources, therefore -- I still had my 28¢ at the end of the auction. *** __We got losted__, we did. After the trip down to meet Bill Deutsch, Speer found out that he had left his briefcase in the Swisher house. Unfortunately, we lost Widner and set out with the Vigor that marked our entire trip (hah!) to find the Doc's house.again. After going round in circles, literally, for a minute or so, we proceeded to go down a long, long street in the general direction of the Swisher abode. Eventually we found the darn thing ((Widner, or the briefcase?--RW)), but only after a long search. *** And then we had to go to the North Station instead of the South Station to put Trudy on her train! Pathfinders -- naw -- fans. *** And a well-known axiom concerning fans and slans does not bear repeating here. *** Perhaps the most outstanding treat on the entire trip was the view of Lester del Ray's room. If you can describe Cthulhu accurately, I'll attempt to tell you exactly how Lester's room looks. Might mention here that del Ray's I.Q. is -- 240! And genius rating is 200. *** We can have our little jokes, can't we friends? Both of you. *** WE like readers' sections, and for that reason we're going to cut this almighty short to allow Raym to put in at least a 1 part dept. of comments. Yea, verily. *** Orban tank I go home now. The End. RAYM-SAYS: I didn't run a readers' section this time after all, Harry, in spite of your heart-breaking sacrifice. See editorial for reasons. *********************************** HOWDY CHUMS: Just to start off on the right foot, this is an ad for -- let's see -- what's the thing I put out? Oh yeh, Leprechuan! The second (May) issue will be out -- er, about the middle of April, I guess. There'll be some sweel stuff in it. Articles, fiction, poetry, art, and so forth, and so forth, all of it really tops. I can't tell exactly what yet; I have so much swell material, not all will get in, but these are definite: "Blastings from Bloomington," by Bob Tucker; "Argosy, 1941", by Harry Warner, Jr.; "Time on his Hands," by Leonard* Marlow; and poetry like "The Exquisive Hour" by Selma Green. And a lot of departments and things. It's only a nickel from -- from -- oh yeh, Larry Shaw, 1301 State Street, Schnectady, New York. Psst, hey -- don't forget! ((LEPRECHUAN is a bargain for a nickel, folks! and watch it improve with the second issue -- RW))
