Thursday, February 13, 1919 The Daily Iowan State University of Iowa Page Five EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY IS ORGANIZED HERE Purpose of the Organization is to Promote Interest in the Educational Field Lambda Theta, local honorary educational sorority, has definitely organized with a constitution and permanent officers, and is working toward the establishment here of a chapter of the national organization, Pi Lambda Theta. Officers chosen are: president, Lois Wichman; vice president, Frances Dearborn; recording secretary, Helene Blattner; corresponding secretary, Helen Davis; treasurer, L. Ruth Jones; historian, Sara Stinchfield; sergeant at arms, Miriam Brueckner. The purpose of the organization is to promote interest in the educational field and high scholastic and professional standards among prospective teachers. Graduate work and research in the field of education are to be encouraged. Active members will cooperate with those out teaching by a mutual exchange of problems. Charter members are as follows: Helene Blattner; Miriam Brueckner, Lois Carpenter, Constance Chapman, Margaret Condit, Dr. Amy Daniels, Helen C. Davis, Frances R. Dearborn, Mrs. Edith Germane, Bess Goodykoontz, Lucille Goodykoontz, Marian Henry, Rosemary Laughlin, Alice Lincoln, L. Ruth Jones, Mildred McGhee, Helen Mackintosh, Dorothy Prewitt, Mame R. Prosser, Nelle Ratcliffe, Luella Reimers, Maude Shuell, Mabel Snedaker, Sara Stinchfield, Ruby O. Strand, Elsie Wallace, Verda E. Walter, Lois Wichman. Requirements for membership are scholarship above average in education and at least average standing in other classes. New members may be chosen next quarter on this basis. The 8 o'clock psychology class honored the memory of Lincoln yesterday morning by singing "America" at the opening of the hour at the suggestion of Dean C. E. Seashore. C. E. Germane, graduate student in education, and Harry Green, assistant in education, are making a survey of school buildings at Clinton under the direction of E. J. Ashbaugh of the extension division. UNIVERSITY LEADERS TO BE GIVEN DINNER W. O. Finkbine and Carl Kuehnle Plan Annual Dinner for Representative Men Carl F. Kuehnle, LL. B. '82, of Denison, and W. O. Finkbine, LL. B. '80, of Des Moines, will entertain the representative men of the University at dinner at the Jefferson hotel, Monday, Feb. 24. Their purpose, according to Prof. Forest C. Ensign, acting secretary of the alumni association, is "to develop the feeling of fellowship and cooperation between the alumni and those men who, within a few years, will take prominent places of service in Iowa and elsewhere." Two years ago, these men gave a similar dinner to some seventy students. The hosts intend to include a representative from each fraternity, literary society, club, athletic team, college class, and University publication. The military department will also be represented. The dinner will be given on the eve of Foundation day. There is a special significance in this, for it is hoped that this getting together of students and alumni will be the foundation of many permanent friendships. It is the intention of Mr. Finkbine and Mr. Kuehnle to make this dinner an annual affair. Lucile Matyk, Delta Zeta, spent Thursday at her home in Cedar Rapids. College Street ENGINEER SOCIETY MEETS Several Iowa Professors to Attend Convention at Muscatine Several professors from the college of applied science will attend the thirty-first annual meeting of the Iowa Engineer society to be held at Muscatine Feb. 19 and 20. Among the important problems to be discussed, one of paramount interest in the state is whether Iowa should place the drainage of wet lands under federal control as a part of the reclamation service. Dean W. G. Raymond will give an address on the "Iowa State Board of Conciliation," and Major B. J. Lambert will speak, in connection with the good roads project in Iowa, on the military road system in France. The officers of the society, of which Prof. J. H. Dunlay is secretary and treasurer, are very anxious to stimulate interest and it is their plan to discuss and encourage the formation of other Iowa societies. To further this plan the engineers will hold their annual camp fire with A. F. Fischer, county engineer, in charge. The evening will be devoted to stories of the war and reconstruction. Major Lambert and Lieutenant Hands will relate some of their experiences. Every member who has been in the service will be expected to contribute his share to make it the biggest campfire yet. The session will close with a informal banquet given by the Muscatine Association of Commerce at the Hotel Muscatine. Cecil Cross, Alpha Xi Delta, has gone to her home in Winterset. Kathryn Montgomery '13 has resigned her position at Washington high school as instructor in English. Her position will be filled by Eva Mae Willer of Tipton, also a graduate of 1913. Emmett O'Grady and Mark Healey are ill at the Phi Kappa house, Crairie Smith, Alpha Xi Delta, has left school on account of ill health.
