Tuesday, April 22, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN, STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE THREE [picture of Women's Glee Club] THE WOMEN'S GLEE CLUB WHICH WILL GIVE ITS ANNUAL CONCERT TOMORROW AT THE N.S AUDITORIUM S.A.T.C. CONTRACTS ARE NOW CANCELLED University and Government Reach Settlement-Reimburse Men for Subsistence Cancellation of all S.A.TC. contracts between the University and the government has just effected, according to word given out from Secretary W.H. Bates' office late yesterday. A complete settlement has been made which has is very satisfactory to both parties, says Mr. Bates. The contracts covered an expenditure of more than $300,000. In addition to cancelling the contracts, government officials when there stated that the government would reimburse all students for any housing and subsistance which occurred due to delay in induction. This has already been done in the case of men who were inducted into the S.A.T.C. late, but a number of men who made application to enter and through no fault of their own were not inducted, never received any reimbursement. Some men stayed at the University thirty or sixty days and were never taken in the training corps. This new ruling allows them money for their subsistance and housing. The number of days which men who were not inducted lived at the University at their own expense amounts to 6,106. The government now agrees to pay this money. A glance at the expense accounts of the S.A.T.C. shows some startling figures. Although the University sublet the feeding contract to Foude's for a part of the S.A.TC. men, the books show that the University itself expended $38,000 in feeding men. Some of the main items of food for the men in the S.A.T.C. add up to 256.77 tons. For example the men at the mess hall consumed 98,400 pounds of meat, 13,120 pounds of butter, 11,200 gallons of milk, and other articles in similar proportions. THETA SIGS ELECT OFFICERS Officers for the next school year were elected at the last meeting of Theta Sigma Phi, professional journalistic sorority. Kathyrn Friston was elected president; Mary Rice, vice-president; Nancy Lamb, secretary; Beth Wellman, treasurer; and Marian Dyer, keeper of the archives. Installation of the newly elected officers wil take place May 1. Mrs. Charlotte Olney of Marathon is visiting Mrs. Hurley at the Alpha Chi Omega house. Rodney Cobb, sophomore, spent Sunday at his home in Davenport.
