Thursday, May 29, 1919 THE DAILY IOWAN, STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PAGE FIVE SOCIETY AND PERSONAL MORONY-CONNER Miriam Morony, former University student, was married to Capt. Leo Buffington Conner of the Twelfth cavalry, at El Paso, Tex. last week. The wedding took place at St. Patrick's cathedral in El Paso and was carried out in true military style. Mrs. Conner is a member of the Iowa chapter of Pi Beta Phi. Her husband was a West Point graduate of 1918 class and in two promotions attained his present rank in the regular army. The honeymoon will be spent in Panama where Capt. Conner's regiment is stationed for a time. CHACE-PETTIS Benjamin F. Pettis of New London, a graduate of the pharmacy college, recently married Marjorie Whiting Chace, assistant demonstrator at the Newport, R.I., country farm bureau. The wedding took place at Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Pettis will be located at Wapello, Ia., where Mr. Pettis had bought a drug store. IOWA WINS RETURN GAME WITH AMES ON IOWA FIELD (Continued from page 1) and the runner went the circuit. Olson drove in Iowa's run after McIlree was safe on Levsen's error. Ninth Inning a Prize But the ninth inning took the prize Thayer, first man up for Ames, drew a walk. Plagge flied [out?] to Brown. On Vanderloo's hit Thayer went to second and both men moved up a base on Olson's first and only passed ball. Levsen took three strikes and it looked as if the worst was over, but Greenlee was passed, [filling?] the bags. Schneider singled with two strikes called on him, Thayer and Vanderloo scoring. Hamilton fielded the ball as Greenlee rounded second at full speed and threw to home plate in a vain endeavour to stop runs that were already scored. Greenlee steamed up and headed for third base. McIlree stopped Hamilton's throw in and [pegged?] hard to third to catch the runner, but Irish let the ball get away and Greenlee scored. The play at home was close on Greenlee, but the counter was allowed and when the excitement died down Schneider was on third base. Betz fanned for the third out and it was over. Crawford Good at First McIlree, though hit hard, stopped the Aggies without scores on various occasions. In the fourth two hits failed to net a count, though Plagge got on before a man was out. A single ball in the ninth went for a hit and three runs where a called stake would have ended the game. In the eighth Betz was credited with a double, through a clear field without telephone pole or banks in left field would have made the high fly and easy out. On the other hand Belding was robbed of a home run hit and the Hawkeyes of two scores when a ball driven over the left field fence went foul by a matter of inches. Crawford for Iowa fielded cleverly at first base in his first appearance in the position and drove out four hits in five times up, two of them triples. Vandeloo [sic] made three hits for Ames. Ehred and McIlree featured the Hawkeye fielding play.
