Saving...
Omaha, Nebraska, September 11, 1939 Dear S.B. Your trunk was taken from the front stoop this morning by the Rock Island Motor Transport, under an agreement that includes delivery to your address, 830 N. Dubuque, IC. In this letter is the key. Your laundry case is coming by parcel post. Bob had told us that very likely you would stay in the annex. I do not knew what influenced you to give up the private quarters, but assume that you have good reasons. Under the circumstances I agree that it is unwise to set up a radio and record player for the unrestricted use of the bros.Rusty Luther wrote me that he could not help on a radio as they do not carry them any more. Ben left last Thursday for Adel, intending to visit there until Monday, to-day, when he planned to move on to Ames. Mother went with Mrs. Fuller and George this morning, as far as Adel where she will visit until Friday aft, and then drive the car back. In the interim Kinpoo [George] and I will batch it. He enrolled at Benson this morning, and stated this evening that it is the first time that he has ever wanted to go to school. Evidently his first impression has been good, and I trust that it endures. His courses should be within his capacity this fall, unless the advanced arithmetic gets beyond us. The Pansings [neighbors] are back with us, having arrived in the homestead last Friday. Inability to get satisfactory (paying) tenants was a prime factor, Rumor has it that they wish to sell the place and build on the vacant lot east of the house. We had them over for dinner Sunday, and other friends have been feeding them since arrival. The scheme seems to meet with their approval. Dade is almost as big as Tom and has a baser voice. He began his Benson football career tonight, so George reported. I wonder what he can do with the ND system? Tom and Bittner had a good summer in NY and worked most of the time at Radio City, paging, guiding and urshering for $15 per week; but found the city somewhat irksome and not too thrilling on the standard of living provided by their income. He will be in his second year of law at Nebraska this year. Bob reported that the Ford is balky. I hope that you consider carefully before you start to spend money on that type and grade of vehicle. If it needs only the adjustment that an experienced mechanic can give it, all well to spend a dollar; but if it has to have parts, you will be smarter to give to someone who has time to monkey with it, and cancel your insurance. It seems incredible that the summer has come and gone so quickly. But it has been a satisfactory season and one of many pleasant memories. The first one that all of us have been at home thruout the vacation since 1933. I hope that we can get around to visit you more often than last year but mother's duties may hold us close to Omaha. But, there is always the mail. Love Pop
