Saving...
October 5, 1939 Dear SB: It seems but a little while since were last writing you at this addresas, and here it is again another, and perhaps the last year, at Iowa, truly time flies, and he who fails to recognize that fact should properly be classified with the grass hoppers, because he surely will be overtaken. As indicated in my letter of last Monday, I an coming over to see Iowa beat Indiana, and will stop at Ames for Ben. Bob Hobbs said that he could not make it this time, so I wrote a note to Bob Stacy offering transportation and the extra ticket to him. He has been kind enough to taxi you back and forth to IC and it seemed that he might well have first chance there. Should he have other plans I will contact King. If he is busy and no one else appears eligible, I can no doubt sell the ticket at the gate. Last Sunday I learned that the hotels in IC are out, so I wish that yon would speak for any extra davenports or cots that may be available. Ben and I may have to move on to some other town for the night. I noted your remark about wanting the car for that night, and it will be at your disposal, especially If yon can arrange a night spot for Ben and me (maybe Bob). we will meat you again after the game in the same place. the tickets came yesterday, also Hunter's. Many thanks. This year is starting with a bang for you, and it may be the closest realization of your football ambitions. I know that you will maintain the same equilibrium that has been one of your oharacteristics. A friendly, pleasant, courteous and always considerate attitude toward everyone, is certainly proper and is sometimes a real chore in itself. For myself, I am apt to assume an air of reserve and disinterest that I am sure is mistaken by some as offishness and aloofness. A smile and a cheerful greeting for casual acquaintances and even strangers who appear to know who you are might dispell that effect. I know that personal relationships is a field that has too long been neglected in my life, and you know that once the weeds get ahead of the grass it makes the job alot harder. You have always travelled the more natural path however, and these comments are on thoughts that have just occured to me lately. Blessings on you, and Love Pop
