Saving...
Sunday Oct 22 - '39 (no game on 10 - 21) Sunday Hello Family: It was good to hear from you again, mother. I look forward with eager anticipation to each letter. I have spent half my time this fall answering my somewhat heavy correspondence; it is time pretty well spent too, I figure. I am afraid that I don't have time to read all the articles you might send to me, mother. I appreciate very much any sentinels or pertinent articles of this sort you might think helpful, however. George's football has been arranged for with no cost whatsoever andIdid not steal it nor did I prostitute my honor or character. I hope that he will enjoy it as much as I know I would have at that age. It is a truly regulation football in every respect and has been used oh so very little. His birthday party sounded like a lot of fun; I wish that I might have been there. As I have repeated so many times before there is no fun or enjoyment like that found in the bosom of one's family under a comfortable roof. This weekend of rest has been wonderful. I think we will be all set to really play a ball game against Wisconsin. It looks, however, as if we may have lost Walker for the rest of the season. He was our best tackle, probably, but we have a fellow whom I think will fill in in pretty good shape. I am coming closer to palying this game for fun this year than at any time since I left high school. The thing 1 must watch is that I don't relax and get careless about my playing before the last whistle of the season has sounded. It is rather easy to do that when you become a senior and every game finds you the underdog. How I hope in these next few games I can really help these coaches and Iowa get started toward the top. My desire to do well is as good as it ever was but any personal ambition as to reward or recognition following theseason has pretty much gone out of my mind. More than anything else now I want to play for vigorous fun and get these coaches started on the right foot; they are really fine fellows. Nothing_but carelessness and thoughtlessness made me play the game 1 did at Mich. I trust that it won't happen again. Last nite I had a date again and had a pretty fine time. For the next few weeks it looks like I won't have much time for that. But I assure you that I shall take up where 1 left off as soon as I can. Verynice gal; I expect some guy will hang his pin on her or marry her before school is out--based on past experience of course. There is nothing to indicate that such might happen however. I have anice letter fromBob every now and then. I think we btoh would like to head for the northwest in the near future. I don't know it could be arranged or how it would work out but it is something to keep in mind. Your suggestion for the coupe is fine, I hope it works out ok. Yours, SB
