Emmetsburg, Iowa October 30th, 1939. Mr. Bennie Kinnick, Beta House, Ames I O W A. Dear Bennie: I'm awfully glad that I stuck my head out that door at the right time, and you called to me. I repeat what I said there, that anytime anyone of the House of Kinnick appears on the scene, the latchstring to all doors from the President's Office down to the Janitor's, is out and the doors are way, way open. I told Nile before I saw you that he was really making our dreams and prayers come through, and I do mean both of them. For the past year, he and I have been dreaming and praying for just such a comeback, and I'm thrilled that we are seeing it before his competitive days are over. He's a grand little competitor. An ALL-AMERICAN in anybody's book. I can imagine how proud you are of him, and incidentally, your ears would have been more than slightly pink if you had heard all of the nice things he said to me, about you, after you had gone. I hope to see you at the Notre Dame and Minnesota games. Do Just like you did at Madison. If I'm not in sight, holler like hell, and one of the guards will find me. Very truly yours, James W. Fay JAMES W. FAY JWF-H.
