Saving...
November 1, 1939 Dear Ben: We have been hoping to hear from, you and also from Nile on the game at Madison, but up to my departure from home this morning, nothing had come from either of you. Jimmy Fay wrote me a nice letter, and said that he had seen you at Madison. It must have been a thriller diller. I have stated many times that I never expected to see the likes of the Indiana game again, but the contest last Saturday must have been almost equal in every respect. We listened to the broadcast by Bill Brown and it sounded right good. Nile must have played a steller game, and I noted only one possible slip; that being the lateral which he attempted after the long run, resulting in a return of the ball by the officials because of forward instead of a pass. Your remarks on the weekend will be of much interest to us. We shall be seeing you on Saturday, and we now plan to drive back on the morning of the 4th. That will save mother from changing hervdate for rehersal on Friday night. Then we shall be driving back right after the ceremony. The following Saturday I plan to come back for the Notre Dame game, and George will be with me, also possibly Bob. He will let me know soon. It is my understanding that you have passage engaged to Iowa City for the ND game, but I am not sure about your ticket. As I remember it you hoped to sit on the bench, but Nile wasn't so sure that it could be arranged. Will you need one of Nile's three tickets? Bob Hobbs had one for each of the games and I understand that Nile has them for disposition in case Bob is unable to use them. For the Minnesota game, I also plan to come over, probably alone as I will drive to Adel on Thursday evening. Friday I shall go up to Bradford for a visit and return to Ames that evening. Can you give me shelter that night? Then Saturday we can drive to IC and return immediately after the game if you wish the car that evening. All of these plans can be discussed again when we meet in Adel next Saturday. I assume that you are saving some clippings from the Chi. News and other sheets that I do not see. The personal scrap book is filling rather rapidly this fall. Love Pop
