[typewritten:] December 2, 1939. Mr. Nile Kinnick Iowa City Iowa Dear Mr. Kinnick: I thought you would no doubt be interested in the attached notices, if you have not already seen them, especially the November 29th one. I am not a hero worshiper, but I do admire sincerely a Christian Scientist who so effectively and efficiently uses it. I particularly was grateful for the statement attributed to you in the "Wake" of November 30. You certainly must have been seeing the perfect man pretty constantly. More power to you! I'm terrible at figures and especially averages, but what I gathered from James Kearns article in the News of December 1 made me wonder as to the complexion of Mr. Kearns. He certainly goes out of his way to build up a case for Mr. Harmon. Of course, the average is 6.3 out of 265 as against 5.2 out of 317. However, maybe I'm wrong but it certainly seems to me that you ran way ahead of Mr. Harmon on all the points made. I suppose everybody in Chicago has sent you these clippings, but I wanted to be sure you saw them. Perhaps it might help you to make your demonstration, but I'm sure by this time you're all on top (referring to the report that you were hurt in the Northwestern game). Sincerely yours, [handwritten:] Katharine M. Sherman [typewritten:] Katharine M. Sherman 4552 Wolf Road Western Springs, Illinois
