Fort Omaha, Nebraska July 2, 1943 University of Iowa Alumni Ass'n, Iowa City, Iowa Gentlemen: Inclosed you will find a copy of a poem I have recently written in tribute to Nile Kinnick. I thought possibly you might be interested in having it. I did not know Nile personally, but being a native of Iowa, of Clarion, Iowa to be more specific, I have seen him play ball on numerous occasions and have always admired him. It may be from a strictly poetic angle that the poem is not too good, but it makes up in sincerety for whatever it may lack otherwise.
