Saving...
was something. We all went to dinner at Barneys, a steak house on 44th or somewhere around there. Strange to relate we got big steaks with no trouble at all and also quite enough butter. It was quite a treat for me, because the mess here has steadily gotten worse - and it isn't just my imagination. The past week our meat serving - if any - consisted of punk sausages, or weenies, or maybe a little fish. Butter seems to be available only about four days out of seven. The standard wisecrack, expressed with a mock tone of resignation, is that "I guess only the armed forces get all the meat and butter they want." Trust you won't be unduly nettled, for everything is adequate, and it doesn't seem to make much difference to me. Around eleven oclock we bid the gals goodnight and Bob & I settled down to talk the things over. It had been a year almost to the week since we had last seen each other in K. City. You might possibly find reference to that meeting in my diary. Unfortunately, Bob had to be back at Lakehurst shortly after middday on Sun. so we didn't get a chance to see a play together. Our visit was brief, but a lot of fun. Hope that we can make connections again before I leave. Incidentally,
