Friday Sept 25, 1942 Dear Folks, It has only been a week since I left you in Adel but much has happened which you will want to hear about. When I got off the train at Iowa CIty I found Glenn Devine and Jim Kearns waiting to meet me. You will remember Jim as the sportswriter from the Daily News who was so generous to me in 1939. In fact he was quite instrumental in getting me the big time publicity necessary for All-American recognition. He is now with Marshall Field's Chicago Sun and was assigned to cover the Iowa Pre-Flight School's game with Kansas. Their train left shortly after I arrived so I didn't get to talk to him for very long. He had a column in the Sunday paper in which he made reference to me in the kindest terms. I cut it out and enclosed it in a letter which I forgot to mail before leaving Iowa City. I
