Saving...
that you sent; and Aunt Beth gave me a couple more by Kearns that Betty had sent from Chicago. The other day one of the girls in the office who has a brother in the weather service stationed at Anchorage, Alaska, gave me a copy of the Anchorage Daily Times which carried the story of Sonny Franck and his bride. The Sunday magazine in the Register to-day had a half page about Tiny Maxwell and his contribution to football. We listened to the Washington game, but missed your interview. I thought that something like that might happen but we happened to be on the wrong station at that time. The Nebraska game certainly was a dandy. Wish that you might have been there that day. It was sweet music over the radio. I wonder if you saw the piece by Pegler, which is enclosed. His arguments are based on facts that I had largely forgotten but which surely are rather pertinent facts. Quite a clear analysis, I think. Those Russians are doing a magnificent job and deserve and must have all of the help that we can give them in supplies and in the second front, but I repeat that they must keep their theories of government in Russia. I haven't the slightest sympathy for any effort to soap-box this country into the Communistic sphere. That sort of thing has had too much toleration in this land of the free. To mention Costa Rica. Your friend was right in saying that his country is about the size of lake Michigan. CR is 23,000 square miles and the Lake is 22,336 square miles; about a 3% difference, and you will remember that Iowa has about 55,000 sq. miles. My respects to Hobbs. His ingenuity is refreshing. Kindly give him the grip of the Amalgamated Society of Hat Stuffers. I, too, belong and have some tp in my hat now. Pleased to hear that you still hear from La Jolla (Glendon Rollins). Will be much interested in knowing of developments there, if any. Love Pop
