Saving...
Oct. 15, 1942 Little Theatre, Jacksonville It happened at the theatre, just the other night; We went to the play, make what friends we could. This flying game is fine, no kick is coming there, But when sun is down and planes staked and tied, Then to other things we turn as any fellow would, The lady in the lobby was nice as nice could be, So glad we came, so proud of boys in uniform Have a seat, enjoy the show, do come again We bowed and scraped and thanked her sure But all the while we peeled an eye for younger stuff We picked a row of empty seats and sidled in There we were, twelve rows back, vacancies beside I to the left, Bob to the right, hope in hearts but dubious too. My luck has always run to other things, sad though true That night was no exception, which could have proved the rule. Almost before I'd settled I knew I'd had no luck My glance was fleeting and casual quite enough But married she was and that for sure An Army man for spouse, of course I didn't know But old & fat she was and there beside me sat.
